Yearning to offer a more cohesive visual and technical approach to clients in entertainment and performing arts, Mathieu founded Normal Studio with Philippe Belhumeur in 2009. They quickly established durable creative partnerships with multidisciplinary artists Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, stage directors René Richard Cyr, Dominic Champagne, Brigitte Poupart and Michel Laprise, and production houses for television shows such as Star Académie, The Voice, Juno Awards and Gala de l’ADISQ.
As the studio’s creative director, Mathieu establishes artistic guidelines for the moods that our collaborators are seeking to convey. Whether it’s the poetic and politically charged imagery of Argentinian band Soda Stereo—for Cirque du Soleil’s Sep7imo Dia or the dreamy universes of Michel Lemieux’s installations, Mathieu infuses creativity and passion in visuals that leave the spectator in a state of wonder.
In 2005, Mathieu cofounded multimedia design company Geodezik with Jimmy Lakatos and Gabriel Coutu-Dumont. Amongst others, he designed video backdrops for globally renowned stars such as Justin Timberlake, The Killers and Linkin Park. Before dipping his toes in the creative world, Mathieu spent 8 years working in kitchens, where he developed a flair for organization, adaptability and taking on great challenges.
Since 2018, he’s taken a student from the National Theatre School of Canada’s Production Design and Technical Arts program under his wing. He also participates in private education programs like Campus Pivaut in partnership with Cirque du Soleil.
